Race Format for Selecting Winners
- Qualifying rounds consist of the (3) fastest consecutive laps
- Pilots are selected using the table system and if their respective frequency is open, they qualify to fly
- Only one of their quads will be allowed on the line at one time
- Semi-final round will include the top 50 pilots if there are 100 or less pilots in total; it will include the top 64 pilots if there are above 100 pilots in total
- Participants may fly any drone from 1 inch to 8 inches of the propeller diameter, which is limited to propeller-driven drones
- The Final Round will include the top 24 pilots on a double elimination bracket ending with the “The Iron Man” Rule: If any one pilot wins all of their races, they are considered “The Iron Man” and only need to win 1 race in the Final Rounds to determine “The Golden Round”
- Spotters You will be spotting for the heat prior to your flying heat. Please bring your drone with you with a fully charged battery ready to fly to the pilot staging area, once the heat you are spotting for lands you should be prepared to fly. Duties include:
- Counting laps with fingers
- Judging
- Verifying pilot results
- Keeping visual contact at all times of their assigned pilot
- Emergency control of assigned pilot
- Notifying Race Director of an unsafe situation
Race Rules
Qualifying Rounds
- All gates and flags must be flown as indicated by the course map
- A pilot flying out of bounds will be scored with a DNF (Did Not Fly)
- All pilots are responsible for spotting the heat before their heat
- Pilots not ready to race after the 2-minute timer will be disqualified for that race at the Race Director’s discretion
- Pilots who false start will incur a 15-second penalty added to their fastest lap for that race (penalty is enforced after a warning)
- If an aircraft fails to launch the pilot is out of the race
- If a pilot loses video due to someone “plugging in on them”1, DVR (Digital Video Recording) footage will be reviewed and a rerun will be called at the Race Director’s discretion
- Collapsed obstacles (gate, flag, etc.), fire on the track, people on the track, or any other unsafe condition will result in a restart at the Race Director’s discretion
Semi-Final Rounds
-
- All Qualifying Round rules apply in addition to the below
- If 2 or more aircraft don’t make it through the start gate, a restart will be called
- Falling off a launch pad will be considered a false start
- All false starts will result in a restart of that race
- Pilots will be placed in a double elimination bracket
- 6 remaining pilots will move on to Final Rounds
- “The Iron Man” Rule:
If any one pilot wins all of their races, they are considered “The Iron Man” and only need to win (1) race in the Final Rounds to determine “The Golden Round” 2
Final Rounds
- All Qualifying Round rules apply in addition to the below
- If 2 or more aircraft don’t make it through the start gate a restart will be called
- Falling off a launch pad will be considered a false start
- All false starts will result in a restart of that race
- The Golden Round:
- First pilot to win (2) races is awarded 1st place and those after will be awarded 2nd through 6th place in the order in which they have finished
- Tie Breaker Round:
- If (2) or more pilots contest a finishing place the Race Director will defer to the timing system
- If the timing system confirms a tie within +/- 0.001 seconds (rounded up) a 3-lap heads up tie breaker round will be conducted in order to determine the place that was tied
